JOB DETAILS

A national Structural Warranty Provider seeks a Building Inspector with new build residential experience to operate in the vicinity of Glasgow and Edinburgh. The home-based permanent role involves overseeing residential developments at different stages of construction for warranty compliance. Salary of up to £40,000, company vehicle, and private healthcare.

The successful Building Inspector will provide professional advice on all aspects of property and construction and will be primarily responsible for carrying out risk assessments on properties that have been registered by the company in order that they meet Building Regulations and relevant standards.

Building Inspector responsibilities:

  • Inspecting existing properties and preparing condition survey reports
  • Carrying out site inspections for 10 year structural warranty insurance cover on new build dwellings. Inspecting the dwellings at various stages during construction and liaising with builders on any technical issues or sub-standard/remedial works
  • Inspecting properties and preparing claim validation reports and costings of remedial works for insurance purposes
  • Assessing defects and compiling expert reports for clients involved in contract disputes
  • Investigating structural issues and rainwater ingress claims. Coordinating contractors/developers to eradicate structural issues and moisture ingress throughout buildings
  • Identifying potential business leads and new sites for sales to follow up
  • Assist other departments and areas when required

Building Inspector requirements:

Essential

  • Holds Building Surveying degree / NVQ Level 6 in construction-related discipline
  • Experience of private residential construction from foundation through to completion
  • Working knowledge of UK Building Regulations
  • IT literate and project management ability
  • Ability to work on own initiative, managing their own diary and planning site visits
  • Flexibility in personal approach
  • Customer-focused surveyor
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Initiated/ attained professional membership of RICS, CABE or CIOB
  • Previous experience within the structural warranty or Building Control industry
