Job Description

Position Summary

This position will perform Civil/Structural design engineering related activities in support of the operation and maintenance of Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS).

 

The respondent is subject to the District’s Fitness for Duty Program. The person filling this position must live within a 45-minute response time to Cooper Nuclear Station and will participate as a member of the CNS Emergency Response Organization (ERO).

 

Note: Level I to Level V Engineer is considered a progression and is approved by the appropriate manager. Engineering positions are managed under the NPPD Nuclear Engineering Career Path document.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited school, preferably in Civil/Structural Engineering.

 

Desired Experiences:

1. Power plant experience (nuclear or non-nuclear) is desirable but not required.

2. General knowledge of applicable ASME, AWS, ACI and AISC codes.

3. A Professional Engineering (PE) License or the desire to obtain a PE in the next 3-5 years.

4. The ability to perform independent research, reviews, studies and analyses in support of technical projects and programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Providing technical expertise to develop, manage and implement plant modifications, calculations, engineering evaluations, and operability determinations utilizing applicable standard design criteria, practices, procedures and codes.

 

Providing resolution of system/equipment problems and field support of maintenance activities.

 

Recommending changes/updates to equipment, concepts, and techniques to improve performance, simplify construction, reduce costs, correct design or material flaws, or comply with changes in codes or regulations.

 

Maintaining station design basis documents.

 

Supporting refueling outage activities.

 

Identification and resolution of items as part of the stations Corrective Action Program
