CLASS SUMMARY:
Responsible for skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of airport electrical systems, facilities and equipment. Preventative maintenance and repair on electrical systems and equipment. Operate various measuring, diagnostic, and testing equipment. Perform other duties as assigned or needed. Other duties include snow removal, operating heavy equipment, data entry, and facilities on-call responsibilities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.

  • Maintains special airport lighting systems in accordance with codes, and standards
  • Arial work performed from a bucket truck on 70’ light poles throughout the facility.
  • Install, maintain, modify & repair motors, high voltage vaults, transformers, insulators, switches, switching gear, emergency generators, relays, circuit breakers and other electrical components of the lighting and mechanical systems in all airport related facilities.
  • Assists in inspecting the contract installation of electrical facilities and in developing improvements to such facilities
  • Inspect and test components of electrical systems, including performing thermal imaging on assigned equipment
  • Read electric meters
  • On-call to respond to system problems
  • Complete work orders and record time/material utilized on jobs, through a computer based asset management system.
  • May perform the duties of Safety Trainer
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED and five years experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of major electrical control systems; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

 

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Journeyman Electrician license
  • Commercial Driver’s license – Class B (or ability to acquire Class B CDL within 6 months of hire date.)
  • Maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Electrical theory and calculations;
  • Mechanical concepts, i.e. structures, physics, engine operation;
  • Generators and Automatic Transfer Switches; VFDs and UPS.
  • Equipment and associate conduit/wiring installation
  • High voltage, motor and lighting controls;
  • OSHA Standards, National Electrical Code and Airfield and FAA Regulations.

 

SKILL IN:

  • Use of a variety of computer-based technologies including word processing, and spreadsheets;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective, fair, cooperative, collaborative and respectful relationships with internal and external colleagues, peers, work teams and workgroups.
