Description

We create great places and facilities that support our nation’s economic security – including support to our US Federal and Department of Defense assets nationwide. Working within the context of the communities we serve, we provide planning, design, and construction engineering and management services that fit the needs of these unique clients. Join our team and help us keep our nation and economy strong.

Your Opportunity

Stantec has an opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Field Engineer with large-scale marine and civil works design and construction inspection expertise to provide designer-of-record support at a concrete precasting yard in Brewer, Maine (Bangor area). This is a fulltime assignment at the Brewer facility.

We seek a team player who desires a highly collaborative work environment, has excellent client and communication skills, and strong construction engineering capabilities and experience. Candidate will support designer of record office and field team for an ongoing major military construction project located at the US Navy’s Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME. The estimated term of the precasting is three years.

The precasting yard will fabricate 27 large reinforced concrete monoliths that will be transported via barge to the Shipyard, and then assembled in place to form the new drydocks. Providing quality assurance of the forming, steel reinforcement placing, and precast concrete monolith production, and enforcing the contract documents for Contractor quality control, are the primary objectives of this role.

Close coordination of monolith fabrication at Brewer and interfacing with concurrent construction activities at the Shipyard is essential.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Understand and interpret contract documents – including design drawings and specifications – and confirm monolith fabrication is in conformance with the contract requirements.
  • Provide field engineering services on a large-scale concrete precasting yard, to include precast monolith fabrication, marine transport, and installation of the monoliths at the Shipyard.
  • Support the Resident Engineer and Lead Design Engineer in coordinating and supporting a diverse group of office and field engineers, inspectors and subconsultants.
  • Review and respond to contractor submittals and RFIs, monitor daily progress of Contractor’s work at the precasting yard, and assist in the evaluation of value engineering proposals or field-initiated design changes.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in construction inspection of heavy marine structures.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to solve problems, direct others, and work with subconsultants.
  • Solid oral and written communications skills.
  • US Citizenship required; ability to pass DBIDs and NAVSEA badge background check required.
  • Significant experience in special inspection and testing of reinforced concrete structures.
  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale concrete precast construction and its quality for achieving design service life requirements in a marine environment.

Education and Experience

Ten to fifteen years of relevant inspection and quality control experience in construction or rehabilitation of large-scale transportation, marine, or civil works infrastructure. Associate’s degree in construction management or comparable field is a plus.
