The Role

We are looking for a gifted story teller who can bring our work and the stories of our patients to life in the most urgent and empathetic way. Our new colleague will be a creative individual with an instinct for traditional and digital media alike.

The Head of Marketing and Communications, reporting to the Commercial Director and working closely with the SMT, will lead a team of 5 experienced direct reports, with responsibility for Marketing, Communications and Digital functions.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing

  • Brief and lead strategy for cross-channel marketing and health campaigns.
  • Ensure all marketing activity is results-oriented and that projects are delivered to agreed deadlines and budget.
  • Ensure the consistent use and development of the Irish Heart Foundation brand across all marketing materials and activities.
  • Working in partnership with the fundraising team to deliver consistent and emotive fundraising campaigns in line with organisational goals.

Communications

· Develop and implement strategic communications plans that build awareness of cardiovascular health and help shape national opinion on a broad range of associated policy issues.

  • Working with a PR supplier, lead proactive PR and press office activity that maximises media opportunities and puts the organisation at the heart of the public debate.

Digital

  • Working as part of the internal Web Group and in collaboration with our external web agency, ensure that in all web development the user experience is paramount and performance is measured against clear KPIs.
  • Ensure the Irish Heart Foundation is keeping up to date with and upskilling on the latest trends and best practices in digital marketing, fundraising, analytics and measurement.
  • Oversee the development of a cross-organisational programme of supporter experience for the Irish Heart Foundation’s database of supporters and a strategy to grow their engagement with and support of the organisation.

General

  • Manage the Irish Heart Foundation’s Marketing and Communications Team, which has responsibility for PR, communications, marketing and health campaigns, brand management, digital and supporter experience.
  • Attend monthly Senior Management Team meetings to review and agree communications and marketing strategy and priorities.
  • Oversee integrated marketing and communications across the organisation’s departments (health promotion, patient support, advocacy and fundraising), including working closely with the Health Information Manager.
  • Manage budgets for Marketing and Communications Team activities. Measure, monitor and adjust plans and reallocate budget where needed.
  • Together with colleagues, drive a data-informed and evidence-based culture of testing and reporting throughout the organisation.
  • As a senior member of the Fundraising, Marketing and Communications Department, contribute to fostering a positive, results-oriented and supporter-focused work environment and culture.
  • Attend IHF team meetings and undertake appropriate staff development and training opportunities as agreed with the line manager.
  • The successful candidate is expected to be flexible in this role and carry out other duties that may be assigned to him/her from time to time.

Skills and Experience Required

  • 3 years experience as a people manager with a proven track record of leading a high performing team.
  • Degree in Communications, Business, Marketing or related field is desirable
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a Marketing & Communications role, devising and delivering campaign driven marketing initiatives
  • A strategic mind-set with the ability to meet targets, monitor progress and budgets, and report on performance.
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to find the best solutions to challenges.
  • Self-starter excited by the potential of working in a small, dynamic and growing team.
  • Ability to priortise and manage competing deadlines and priorities, and work calmly as part of a small team in a busy organisation.

Details of Role and Application Process

This is a full-time permanent role, Monday to Friday. The role is based in the Irish Heart Foundation’s offices in Rathmines, Dublin. Currently staff are working on a hybrid basis, with two days spent in the office (Monday and Thursday) and three days spent working from home.
