Project Manager

Rail / Civil engineering

Location – Basingstoke

(Southern)

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join our team in the Southern region working on a portfolio of rail and civil engineering projects including both framework / contract agreements and tendered capital delivery projects.

Business Unit

A busy and fast paced business unit involved in a range of civil engineering works in a variety of sectors to include rail (bridges, embankments, stations, platforms, tunnels etc.), Environment Agency, Local Authority etc. The business unit are involved in multi-disciplinary civils projects across the Southern region, whether one off tendered projects or projects within our long term framework / contract agreements with key clients including both Asset Management and Infrastructure Projects.

Existing contracts include rail infrastructure projects, lineside building projects, minor works framework schemes with works typically including bridge re-construction/replacement, upgrades and refurbishments, station work (platforms, access for all etc.), structures including bridges, tunnels, footbridges, flood repair and alleviation to name just a few examples.

AmcoGiffen has detailed plans to grow our portfolio in the Southern region and require additional operational resource to deliver existing contracts and take responsibility for future works.

The Role

As Project Manager you will be directly responsible for the daily management of various rail and civil engineering projects within our portfolio work in the region. You will be responsible for leading successful contract delivery, by ensuring that the site team are fully appraised of the contract parameters and have the capability and resources necessary to achieve contract objectives.

As Project Manager you will be directly responsible leading the rail / civils teams and projects across the Southern region based from our office in Basingstoke.

The Project Manager has single point responsibility and accountability for successful execution of a project in terms of quality of work, maintenance of schedule, budget and profit margins, and Client satisfaction from commencement to close-out.

Duties and responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Monitor expenditure and such items as work carried out against an estimate originally prepared in order to ensure the work is within the contract or may form a separate claim constantly liaising with the Commercial Dept & Regional Manager on such subjects.
  • The monitoring and control of project performance against budget, schedule, quality and safety requirements using appropriate control tools and reporting of same to AmcoGiffen Management Team and Client.
  • The identification of changes in the scope of work and ensuring that change orders are current and adequate. Prepare early warning and change instruction documentation.
  • Check the documents in use are current, readily available to those requiring them and stored securely.
  • Assess the standard of all proposed installation work associated within the project, undertaking inspections and preparing full reports, where required and submitting these to the Senior Contracts Manager or including the contents within an appropriate programme of works.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, commercial & planning teams.

Requirements

To excel in this role, you will have previous experience as a Project Manager or Project Manager in a rail and civil engineering environment.

  • Degree / HNC or HND in civil engineering (or equivalent compensating experience in a technical engineering role)
  • PTS / SMSTS
  • Experience as a Project Manager in a rail contracting environment.
  • Experience in rail working on civil engineering associated projects
