- $60,000-$85,000 depending on skills and experience

What we are looking for
We are seeking an enthusiastic and technically proficient person to help monitor and maintain the flow of climate and other environmental data from measurement networks into and out of NIWA’s nationally significant Climate Database. The Climate database is built on an Oracle platform and Linux servers and uses a range of tools and processes that have been developed over the past 3 decades. The role includes troubleshooting and quality control issues, maintaining existing software, and developing new software and tools for managing data flow and quality control from remote instrumentation through to an Oracle database and associated climate services applications.
What you will bring:
- Tertiary qualification in science, information technology or engineering, or equivalent experience, with a focus on environmental data.
- Experience with the following:
- Scientific data, preferably climate and meteorological data
- Software development and system administration
- Operational software code development including version control and code documentation systems.
- Operation of relational database systems, including using SQL
- Operational knowledge in environmental sensor data, preferable climate, and meteorological data.
- Excellent computer literacy and the ability to use standard word processing, spreadsheet, models, statistics, and other applications.
- Computing system administration and software development skills.
- Coding abilities in R, SQL, and (procedural) languages such as Python, Perl etc.
You will have good interpersonal skills, an ability to build and maintain positive working relationships, and experience in working with clients and end-users including in different cultural contexts. Candidates should also have an ability to work in a team environment, to be well-organised, results-oriented, and to show initiative.
