General Accountability
Key Job Functions
- Preparing conceptual, preliminary and final design drawings for new or existing utility routing, traffic staging, paving, drainage, fencing and hoarding for roadways, parking lots, bus facilities, and transit right of ways.
- Checking the work of the Design Draftsperson for conformance with design inputs, and coordinating the inclusion of working drawings and specifications to contract documents.
- Supporting the Senior Engineer as required with public utility authorities/City of Toronto to obtain approvals, permits, etc., for TTC new construction and renovation projects.
- Reviewing development proposals for potential impact on TTC structures, facilities and equipment.
- Participating in the development/update of TTC Design Standards, specifications, and standard drawings.

- Candidate will be required to participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.
Skills
Education and Experience
- Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, supported by a University Degree or College Diploma in Civil Engineering, specializing in municipal design with extensive experience in a multi-disciplinary work environment, including supporting design projects where drawings and specifications have been produced by you or under your direction and review.
Additional Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, methods and practices for the design and construction of civil infrastructure for urban transit systems.
• On-site experience and practical knowledge of civil infrastructure construction practice techniques including field reviews.
• Knowledge of project management concepts and practices, and the ability to carry out and/or coordinate projects and studies.
• Sound judgement; strong problem solving and organizational abilities; strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and presentation skills; effective technical report writing skills.
• Familiarity with complex computational tools, and general software such as Microsoft Office.
• Ability to produce design and work on-line using MicroStation is an asset.
• Familiarity with Federal/Provincial Acts and Regulations, codes, municipal by-laws, standards and specifications applicable to the work e.g. Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications, Ministry of Transportation Specifications and Guidelines, City of Toronto Standards and Specifications, as well as related permits and approvals.
• A valid Province of Ontario Class G Driver’s license, and use of own vehicle for occasional project site visits.
• Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
