Job Description:

The primary function of the Controls Engineer I, II, III and Senior is to provide technical support of facility Operational Technology (OT) systems, equipment, and controls projects at JHS-Spokane. The position may participate directly or assist others on project teams which are responsible for the design, acquisition, installation, and/or upgrade of critical systems and equipment used in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products. The Controls Engineer assumes responsibility for participation in capital and expense projects involving controls in facility or production equipment, cost reduction, process improvement, and/or compliance. In addition, the Controls Engineer will provide engineering support to contract manufacturing teams to include process development, process optimization, and deviation investigations.

(In addition to above) The Controls Engineer II and III may participate directly or provide oversight of controls engineers or controls technicians on project teams which are responsible for the design, acquisition, installation, and/or upgrade of critical systems and equipment used in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products. The Controls Engineer assumes responsibility for participation and leadership in capital and expense projects involving controls in facility or production equipment, cost reduction, process improvement, and/or compliance.

(In addition to above) The Senior Controls Engineer assumes responsibility and accountability for capital and expense projects involving controls in facility or production equipment, cost reduction, process improvement, and/or compliance.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Provides technical assistance for JHS-Spokane OT equipment controls systems.
  • Provides technical support of OT Controls projects including facility and utility expansion, compliance upgrades, cost reduction, contract manufacturing, process improvements, construction projects, etc.
  • Participates in support, guidance, and training for Maintenance controls technicians to include controls system troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Provides controls engineering support and guidance for contract manufacturing teams to include process development, recipe creation and maintenance, and support of related capital projects.
  • Responsible for acquiring & maintaining knowledge of regulatory requirements for the facility and processes to ensure compliance to local, state, federal and international regulatory agencies.
  • Manages and/or participates in capital and expense facility projects in a manner that is compliant with the “Project Management Guidelines” system. This system includes methods for scheduling, budgeting, meeting management, teamwork, communication, and documentation of a multi-departmental project team.
  • Must work effectively with various internal and external customers on a daily basis. Internal customers may include departments such as Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Validation, Finance, etc. External interactions will include officials from local, state or federal regulatory agencies, A&E firms, construction firms, vendors, equipment manufacturers, etc.
  • Participates in the compliance to both short-term and long-term company objectives as defined by upper management.
  • Development of detailed specifications and RFQs to be used by A&E firms, contractors or equipment manufactures to accurately quote on projects being pursued by the company.
  • Responsible for developing and using systems of engineering documentation required by regulatory agencies and in compliance with generally accepted engineering guidelines, SOPs, or quality standards.

(In addition to above) Controls Engineer II and III:

  • Is responsible for knowledge of regulatory requirements for the facility and processes to ensure compliance to local, state, federal and international regulatory agencies.

(In addition to above) Senior Controls Engineer:

  • Provides overall technical oversight for JHS-Spokane OT equipment controls systems.
  • Provides expert technical support of OT Controls projects including facility and utility expansion, compliance upgrades, cost reduction, contract manufacturing, process improvements, construction projects, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, or Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or similar engineering discipline required.
  • Rockwell Logix Programmer Certification desired.
  • 3+ years of OT Controls systems engineering required for a Controls Engineer I and II, 7+ years for a Controls Engineer III, and 10+ years for a Senior Controls Engineer.
  • Experience in a Pharmaceutical or other Regulated Industry desired.
  • Allen-Bradley Controls System Hardware: PLC, PanelView HMIs, and Servo Drives experience desired.
  • Allen-Bradley Controls Software: RSLogix, Wonderware InTouch, InSQL Historian, Archestra IDE and DA Servers experience desired. Experience with Allen-Bradley FactoryTalk Studio Suite required.
  • GE Proficy Software Packages: Fix32, iFix, and Proficy Historian experience desired.
  • TCP/IP Networking and Microsoft SQL Server experience desired.
  • Experience with GAMP5 – Data Integrity required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguous and complex situations, influencing outcomes, and driving a multi-disciplinary team without direct authority required.
  • Extended periods of sitting or standing and the ability to lift 40 lbs. unassisted required.
  • Working in classified/aseptic areas and in confined spaces required.

Shift: Day

Compensation:

  • Controls Engineer I: The salary range for this position is $65,479 – $102,000 depending on experience.
  • Controls Engineer II: The salary range for this position is $68,250 – $117,000 depending on experience.
  • Controls Engineer III: The salary range for this position is $78,750 – $135,000 depending on experience.
  • Senior Controls Engineer: The salary range for this position is $78,750 – $135,000 depending on experience.
