Our work depends on a Human Factors Engineer joining our team to design user interfaces using human centered design techniques for high visibility efforts. The candidate will be comfortable presenting design concepts to both the business and tech team. In this role, the ideal candidate will be responsible for designing the end user experience across multiple platforms while accounting for accessibility and responsiveness via any device (web/mobile). The candidate will be responsible for delivering quality products using industry best practices while working within an existing design system under the leadership of a Senior UX/UI developer.

HOW A HUMAN FACTORS ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Applies human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products.
  • Be the point person for new initiative in standing-up public-facing website pages.
  • Guide long-term design solution through multiple phases.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively in both technical and business environments.
  • Work with other team members to gather requirements.
  • Introduce research methods to stakeholders such as: user research, conduct user and stakeholders’ interviews, surveys, user testing and compiling data gained from these activities.
  • Produce design artifacts such as journey maps, user journeys, personas, etc.
  • Develop wireframes and prototypes in a clean, well structured, and easily navigable.
  • Be obsessed with good user-centered design practices and have an eye for details.
  • Be creative, innovative and artistic and passionate about following the latest and emerging UI/UX trends.
  • Work within existing design system and be the ambassador of existing design system to other team members for cohesiveness.
  • Work closely with development team to vet design concepts, understand platform limitations, and review/approve developed interfaces.
  • Be a team player with strong analytical skills to understand and translate business requirements to system UI/UX requirements.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • 3+ years of experience in designing user interfaces for enterprise-wide use.
  • Experience presenting design solution to stakeholders and upselling the value of UX team.
  • Experience in designing artifacts such as journey maps, user journeys, personas, etc.
  • Demonstrate experience performing user research and user testing, to include conducting user interviews, and synthesize the data gained from these activities.
  • Experience in creating design solution for multiple platforms to create a unified user experience.
  • Demonstrate understanding of web standards and accessible design (508 compliance).
  • Experience in responsive design, mobile/tablet UI/UX.
  • Experience developing wireframes and prototypes in a clean, well structured, and easily navigable format.
  • Experience with wireframing/prototyping tools like Figma or Adobe XD.
  • Preferred experience with designing for Drupal and SharePoint.
  • Familiar with The United States Web Design System (USWDS).
  • Must be “clearable,” meaning they already hold a CBP BI, or able to obtain one.
  • BA/BS required.

The likely salary range for this position is $71,200 – $106,800, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
