This job offers the opportunity to work from home as part of a hybrid work arrangement. This arrangement will allow you to work some days at a TCHC work location and the rest of the time from home. We are looking for a Human Resources Consultant to join the Labour Relations/Human Resources team. In this role you will provide support, advice, and guidance related to labour and employee relations matters including the administration, interpretation and application of various collective agreements, policies, programs and the handling of investigations, complaints/disputes and grievances for a large client group in a manner that aligns with TCHC’s tenant focused culture. .

What you’ll do

  • Provide a range of coaching, counselling and strategic advice to clients in the areas of human rights, labour and employee relations, interpretation of collective agreements, employment and labour legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the timely and effective delivery of human resource services including but not limited to consultation and advice in all disciplinary and non-disciplinary matters, investigations, complaints, attendance management, performance management, and workplace accommodations to clients to ensure business objectives are met.
  • Support the grievance process including but not limited to grievance tracking, scheduling, investigating, attendance at Step 2 grievance hearings, preparation of written responses and settlement agreements.
  • Provide advice, assistance, and guidance to managers and consultants in all phases of re-organization.
  • Work closely with human resources personnel to communicate pertinent information and documents.
  • Assist in developing, organizing and leading various workshops regarding labour relations, collective agreement interpretation, workforce planning, guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Participate as a team member on negotiation teams when negotiating collective agreements with unions.
  • Interpret and administer multiple collective agreements, assists in the preparation and representation for grievance hearings and conflict resolution and the promotion of a positive labour relations environment.
  • Participate in labour management meetings and other meetings with union representative on a variety of labour relations matters.
  • Work collaboratively with the recruitment team and provides input on recruitment activities within client portfolio as required.
  • Participate, implement and support key initiatives as outlined in the labour relations strategy.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to resolve complex HR issues and ensures quality in service delivery
  • Mentor, coach and provide work direction to Labour Relations/Human Resources Associates and Human Resources Assistants.

What you’ll need

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, public administration, or other relevant field or equivalent combination of education and work experience in Human Resources.
  • CHRP or CHRL designation is an asset.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in Human Resources and Labour Relations
  • Experience in a unionized setting is required; preferably in the broader public sector or social service sector.
  • Experience providing advice, assistance, and guidance to managers and consultants in all phases of re-organization.
  • Knowledge of human resource practices, contractual obligations, collective agreements and employment legislation, i.e. Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, etc.
  • Experience developing and preparing correspondence and reports.
  • Experience using a variety of software products including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Well-developed analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and follow through on work assignments.
  • Ability to work in a respectful manner with a diverse community of clients, co-workers and external consultants.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment with strong relationship building skills to maintain productive working relationships with managers, employees, union officials and the general public.
