The Network Configuration Engineer will be part of Thales Air Traffic Control and Digital Aviation Solutions engineering team either located in Arlington, VA or Syracuse, NY areas, which is focused on addressing the needs of the aviation industry’s push to integrate unmanned aircraft systems into the national airspace system.
The Network Configuration Engineer will work closely with system engineering, product design authority and IVVQ teams to support product development and project execution, to enable the safe and efficient integration of drones into our airspace and our communities.
The Network Configuration Engineer will contribute to network infrastructure design and configuration activities to guarantee the compliance with customer requirements regarding functionalities, reliability, and security. The candidate will also analyze and troubleshoot network hardware and software problems.
Essential Functions / Key Areas of Responsibility
- Collaborates with product design authority (PDA) and system engineers (SE) to formalize network architectural design in compliance with customer requirements
- Generates technical documentation for network configuration, mapping, and processes
- Support onsite activities for network installation, configuration, maintenance, and testing. This includes firewalls, VPNs, sensors, and workstations.
- Updates logs and releases reports related to troubleshooting activities
- Monitor network performances, and when necessary, provide support for troubleshooting ongoing issues
- Participate in network maintenance and upgrades to ensure implementation of security solutions
- Performs systems backups and recovery
- Support change management activities
Minimum Requirements: Skills, Experience, Education, Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Certifications, Language
- Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Electrical or Software Engineering, or another technical field with a minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree in Systems, Electrical or Software Engineering
- Experience with Cisco IOS, routing, switching, security, and next-generation firewalls
- Relevant work experience in a system engineering, network management, IT, or cybersecurity related field
- Experience with network configuration and troubleshooting techniques
- Good understanding of computer systems, including basic Windows and Linux administration
- Experience supporting complex projects/programs with multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Sense of quality and attention to detail
- Disciplined and systematic thinker
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a service-oriented setting in the aerospace, aviation, defense, transportation, drone, or IT sectors
- Experience with integration and deployment of complex ground based radar systems
- Experience with configuring and administering IT-related equipment routers, switches, gateways, bridges, access points, modems, hubs, and repeaters
- Experience with Information Technology / Service Management frameworks and processes, i.e. ITIL
- Certifications in IT, cybersecurity, or cloud computing preferred, but not required
- Experience with Agile methodologies
Physical Demands
- The duties of this position are performed in an office environment. No special physical requirements.
Salary Range: $67,000 – $127,000
