Full Job Description
Welcome to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
Here at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, we are finalising our next cohort of the International nursing recruitment programme.
As an internationally trained nurse, you will be bringing a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience into NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. We also understand the challenges you will face in relocating to Scotland. We are here to support you every step of the way.
We know that starting a career can be tough, even more so if it involves moving to another country. This is why our Workforce Supply Team has launched a recruitment scheme to support nurses moving to the UK.
International Nursing Recruitment Programme
Our International nursing recruitment programme supports international nurses while they take their objective structured clinical examinations (OSCE). All international nurses must have passed an OSCE in order to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and be eligible to work as a nurse in Scotland. However, you will be interviewed and offered a position within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde before entering the programme to prepare you for the OSCE.
A key aim of this programme is to maintain the high standards of nursing at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. For these standards to be maintained, there are certain things international nurses must have.
- Before coming to Scotland, you will need to pass the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Occupational English Language Test (OET)
- When you’ve passed this, you can start the first part of the NMC registration process – a computer-based test (CBT) of your theoretical and practical knowledge. The CBT can be taken anywhere in the world.
- After this, you can commence your application with the NMC, travel to Scotland, and take your OSCE
As well as helping you pass your OSCE, the Workforce Supply Team can arrange for you to be shown what it is like to work as a nurse in Scotland.
When you arrive, you will be provided guidance and support to help you settle. This includes:
- guidance on accommodation
- provisions
- support on settling in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region.
About the role
To work as a Registered Nurse within Scotland you must hold a valid registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
