Work environment

The Real Property, Safety and Security (RPSS) department looks after lands, buildings, structures, improvements and other fixtures, more commonly known as real property assets. Within Technical Support, working with Engineers and Engineering Technologists, the real property assets that are managed include hatcheries, search and rescue stations, major facilities, light stations, fishways, and many more. The work ranges from major and minor capital projects to ongoing operations and maintenance requirements.

Intent of the process

A pool of fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various tenures across the Pacific Region.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position (some positions may require eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada without regard for the field of specialization).

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Minimum three (3) years or more engineering experience pertaining to real property asset projects in the following:

  • project planning and design;
  • project management and contract administration
  • and project construction and inspections.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EDUCATION

  • Training in project management or PMP certification.
  • Training in sustainable technologies or LEED AP certification.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in the maintenance of facilities & equipment.
  • Experience working with and coordinating federal infrastructure projects.
  • Experience conducting consultation processes at a project level with the First Nations.
  • Experience delivering and coordinating projects on remote sites with access challenges.
  • Experience managing projects in partnerships with and maintaining relationships with the first nations.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of DFO/CCG Real Property facility operations, infrastructure maintenance practices and procedures, and infrastructure upgrade projects (Salmonid Enhancement Sites, Coast Guard Sites, Conservation and, or Protection Sites, Major Facilities).
  • Knowledge of marine infrastructure

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Willing and able to conduct frequent visits to remote construction sites
  • Willing and able to travel to remote locations in small crafts, boats or aircraft
  • Willing and able to access remote sites over rugged terrain and work in extremes of environmental conditions on land and at sea.
