The Project Manager/PMO will assist the leadership team in defining – and ensuring adherence to the principles and practices to be used within the Office of Information Technology and any collaborating departments or an Enterprise Project Management Office (ePMO) within City Schools.

Essential Functions
  • Understands project management concepts and practices from a variety of recognized sources (e.g., PMI /PMP, Ernst & Young Navigator, AGILE/SCRUM).
  • Leads others in the proper PM principles and practices and a thorough understanding of the differences between a project “timeline” vs. a “plan.”
  • Leads others and may be required to provide feedback to managers for evaluation purposes.
  • Assists in defining & driving the use of a “project planning horizon” and a “Minor/Major/Key, InComing / OutGoing” milestone tracking model throughout all our projects.
  • Oversees the throughput of IT projects by using portfolio management, project management, and organizational change management disciplines.
  • Manages the intake of new project requests, the preparation of evaluation-ready project proposals, and the handoff of approved project initiation documents to project managers in other departments.
  • Forecasts and tracks the availability of people to do the project work throughout the project life cycle.
  • Publishes monthly, and annual portfolio reports based on information collected from the project teams.
  • Oversees the closure of projects with follow-up reporting to those who approved them.
  • May be required to identify projects that should be frozen or canceled based on criteria set forth by the leadership and/or industry best practices.
  • Provides instructions to, and evaluation of, individual adherence to established standards.
  • Provides input to individual employee performance reviews related to their compliance to standards and execution of the work and principles of our project management efforts.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

STRATEGY & PLANNING

  • Assists business and technology leaders with articulating new project ideas.
  • Forecasts future resource capacity and reporting on existing resource utilization.
  • Presents accurate representations of project progress, health, risks, and ongoing challenges.
  • Attends various steering committee and PMO meetings, representing the PMO and project management interests.

OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT

  • Ensures the completeness and currency of project and portfolio reporting.
  • Builds & Manages a project tracking system.
  • Validates portfolio-level reporting before alerting senior leadership of its availability.
  • Manages portfolio and project processes to maximize throughput of selected projects.
