Job Description

Job Overview

These positions are for a 3 year TERM – TERM positions may be extended or become permanent.
Interdisciplinary scientists and engineers are needed to verify and validate plausible paths to truly useful quantum computers, many of which are being pursued by very large, privately funded commercial teams.
These positions will work with DARPA US2QC performers to understand the research and development paths to what is essentially a new type of supercomputer – one that relies on thermal, mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering constraints and innovation to succeed. If you have an interest in learning more about quantum computing, are looking for a professional development opportunity at AFRL, and have this type of engineering expertise, AFRL and DARPA are very interested in talking to you.
  • Evaluate quantum architectures, devices, algorithms, and applications.
  • Identify the subsystems and components required for a successful system build.
  • Assess the requirements capture and level of maturity of these elements.
  • Identify the performer’s interface approach: For efforts with an existing interface control document, ingest the information and identify any shortcoming, it may be necessary to convert the performer-provided ICD to a common framework developed by the Government evaluation team; For performer efforts that do not have an existing interface control document, help the performer track system interfaces through an ICD or similar document.
  • Evaluate system design maturity.
  • Assist non-traditional performers to complete design reviews.
  • Full system concept review.
  • Critical subsystem identification.
  • Prototype subsystem system requirements review (SRR) through final design review (FDR) and prototype construction.
  • Utility-scale quantum computer SRR through FDR at program end.

  • This is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position that requires Practitioner Level certification in Engineering & Technology Management (ETM). The selectee will have two years to meet ADPD requirements
