Harris Group is currently seeking a Senior Control Engineer to join one of our California offices in Thousand Oaks (SoCal) or Lafayette (NorCal). Job Summary

This Senior Control Engineer will work with and direct a multi-disciplinary group of engineers, designers, and drafters providing technical services to public and private sector clients. Services will be provided to industrial applications related to process manufacturing, aerospace, chemical processing, and municipalities.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is passionate and competent in control system studies and design. Bring your advanced engineering knowledge and strong skills in mentorship, management, delegation, leadership on automation projects, and coordination with other engineering disciplines to this exciting role!

The Responsibilities

  • Directing control systems testing, equipment commissioning, field testing and system acceptance including operational readiness testing.
  • Setting up industrial communication protocols and VFD configuration.
  • PLC, DCS, HMI and SCADA system planning, design, programming, troubleshooting, and upgrade.
  • Developing drawings and specifications for construction. Drawings for construction include network communication block diagrams, control panel details, wiring termination diagrams, instrument location plans, and instrument installation details.
  • Equipment selection, cost estimating, and equipment layout.
  • On-call (after hours and weekends), if required by the projects.

The Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, and 10 years of experience in PLC programming and HMI or SCADA configuration, with 1 year of field experience. In lieu of a college degree, additional experience will be considered.

  • Working knowledge of piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and motor control schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability using Ethernet and control system communication protocols.
  • Experience with Rockwell, Wonderware, and similar PLC/HMI software.
  • Traveling 50-75% of the year may be required.
  • A registered professional engineer is preferred.
