Full Job Description
Cornell University embraces diversity and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that supports students, faculty and staff of all identities and backgrounds. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or marginalized identities to apply.
The College of Engineering at Cornell University is soliciting applications for a cluster of faculty hires in the general area of advanced materials design and engineering. Highly collaborative, visionary candidates are sought for these tenured or tenure track faculty positions, particularly those who will dramatically accelerate the design-to-application cycle of new advanced materials with properties superior to any known. Competencies desired for this cluster include those enabling (1) “synthesis by design” by providing theoretical guidance from computational thermodynamics, structure prediction, and defect energetics to help navigate kinetic pathways to get atoms into desired positions; (2) “autonomous synthesis” by providing real-time characterization and feedback on a relevant time scale to accelerate the discovery of new electronic materials; and (3) “radical proof-of-concept devices” that embraces untamed materials with great potential and devises ways to pattern, integrate, test, and exploit their performance in game-changing devices. The candidate’s appointment will be made to one or more of the following departments within the College of Engineering: Materials Science and Engineering, Applied and Engineering Physics, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. More information on Cornell College of Engineering’s strategic research focus is available at: https://strategicplan.engineering.cornell.edu
Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research and teaching statements, statement of diversity, equity, and inclusion, copies of publications or preprints as well as the names and emails of at least 3 references:
