The opportunity:
This exciting and rare opportunity will be based aboard our Buffalo Ship and ensure all engineering staff maintain and champion safety and maintain a zero harm culture.
On a day to day basis you will provide professional, proficient, accurate and prudent advice to the Captain and Shipping Manager regarding marine engineering issues on-board the ship, including the management and allocation of delegated human, financial and physical resources.

Example of day to day duties:

  • Meeting daily the ship’s management committee (Captain, Chief Engineer, First Mate, Second Engineer and Chief Integrated Rating) to allocate based on priority available resources according to sea going duties, cargo loading and discharge schedules, plant and equipment repair, replacement and maintenance lists.
  • Alerting the Captain and Shipping Manager of actual and potential risks to cargo carriage e.g. ship bunkering needs and cargo machinery breakdowns.
  • Monitoring on-board bunkers and ensure no disruption to vessel operations and timetable through poor practices and notify the Shipping Office of all pending bunker requirements in a timely manner.
  • Managing the AMOS maintenance system of all Engineering equipment. Ensuring the timely close out of all preventative work orders and ensuring reactive work orders are created, managed and closed out in a timely fashion.
  • Managing root cause analysis investigations and ensuring remedial actions are completed.
  • Responsible for the management and implementation of on-board technical and safety training pertaining to ship board machinery, tools and company engineering policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • New Zealand recognised Chief Engineer Foreign Going certificate
  • New Zealand Sea Going license, issued by the Maritime Safety Authority
  • Confined Space Entry certificate
  • Leadership experience
