Job Description

Purpose:
The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 24 Departments, Schools and Colleges, plus the IBM Markham Learning Site. Through innovative course design, diverse experiential education and learning opportunities, and a supportive community environment, our students receive the education they need to create big ideas that have an impact on the world.The Communications Assistant provides communications and administrative support to the Manager, Events, the Director, Strategic Communications & Marketing and the communications unit in the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS). The Communications Assistant maintains unit tracking and reports, monitors general inboxes, maintains digital and website calendars, and creates/writes content as necessary, coordinates and makes updates to the Faculty and department webpages, and provides administrative support to the Manager and Director.The Communications Assistant will support the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and York University, and contribute to a positive, supportive and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement. embraces diversity and fosters inclusion.

Education:
Community College Diploma in related field (e.g. Professional Writing, Journalism or Communications), or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
One to two (1-2 years) of related experience including experience with social media, database maintenance, administrative, and communications including demonstrated experience with webpage and social media platforms design and maintenance.

Skills:
Demonstrated skills in writing, editing, promotions including programs and events.Excellent oral and written communication skills to elicit information and answer inquiries. Tact and diplomacy is essential. Creativity in design and arts. Exercising good judgment and initiative and maintaining strict confidentiality. Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team. Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work well under pressure of high volume. Setting priorities and coordinating multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines. coordinating events. Demonstrated skill/ability in word-processing (intermediate MS Word), spreadsheets (intermediate MS Excel), and intermediate (or basic) database skills (intermediate MS Access), and electronic calendar/scheduling software. Knowledge of Creative Cloud and other design programs (such as Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, PDF, and Moodle). Knowledge of WordPress.

Demonstrated record of good attendance and punctuality.
