$62,700.00 – $94,050.00

Mechanical Engineer
Status: Exempt (Salaried)
Department: Stationary Engineering (Based in Spokane, WA)
Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineer shall support stationary power product development, testing and change management. This includes design, prototype development, system testing, product release and manufacturing support. The Engineer will use engineering stills to specify and select components, write specifications, create 3D-CAD models and assemblies, and fully document work. This role requires close interaction with the other engineering team members. The ideal engineering candidate shall be highly motivated to contribute and adapt to a rapidly growing company.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create new system designs and/or modify existing system designs with a focus upon lower cost, improved manufacturability, increased product performance, and higher overall product quality.
  • Coordinate and lead design changes with multidisciplinary engineering teams through the enterprise change process.
  • Specify, analyze and design mechanical components and sub-systems with a focus on simplicity and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate proactively to clarify project expectations and meet commitments.
  • Write detailed component specifications.
  • Develop statistically based test plans to optimize designs and verify design latitude.
  • Use PTC Creo to create accurate, complete and concise engineering documentation from large system assembly models and detailed part drawings utilizing tolerance analysis and ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles.
  • Assemble, test, and trouble shoot devices and products.
  • Represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
  • BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent job-based experience.
  • Uncompromising dedication to quality with a strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities along with high standards of professionalism
  • Ability to travel independently to assist with field and operation support of the business
  • Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Driven, self-motivated and passionate with the capacity to self-manage workload and complete assignments timely
  • Knowledge of solid modeling with a sound understanding of good modeling practice and application (CREO and Windchill experience is a plus)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills along with being comfortable communicating with diverse audiences and stakeholders
  • Experience in any of the following spheres of activity is preferred and highly valued: fuel cells, heat exchangers, sheet metal design and fabrication, thermal management and thermodynamics
  • Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities. This may require them to work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.
