The Ministry of Highways is seeking a highly-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to join the Operation Standards Section in Regina.
As a Traffic Engineering Specialist, you will develop and document technical policies, practices and standards related to traffic guidance, roadside and right-of-way management, including road safety management on the provincial highway system.
As an engineering specialist within the Operations Standards Section, you will form part of a provincial team that serves a wide range of stakeholders including but not limited to Ministry staff, the Saskatchewan tourism industry, contractors, consultants, suppliers and utility companies. You will work closely with stakeholders to develop practices and policies targeted to improving traffic safety on provincial highways. You will also develop systemic collision analysis processes, practices and supporting systems for use by Ministry staff and consultants.
The Traffic Engineering Specialist also provides guidance and advice on traffic guidance, traffic safety and roadside and right-of-way management issues on the provincial highway system.
The Traffic Engineering Specialist will develop and manage engineering consulting contracts for project specific policies, practices and standards development initiatives. The Traffic Engineering Specialist will assist with provincial training initiatives and will be called upon to lead Ministry committees related to procurement. The Traffic Engineering Specialist will also develop specifications for use in the procurement processes for a broad range of traffic guidance materials. The Traffic Engineering Specialist may also be called upon to represent the Ministry in order to resolve standards issues with private individuals, public agencies, and external stakeholders.
To qualify for the Traffic Engineering Specialist position, you must possess a degree in engineering from an accredited university and be eligible for registration as a professional engineer or engineer-in-training with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS). You must have a general knowledge of project management, maintenance and preservation, operations, design, construction, contract administration, and contract law.
