The Transportation Planning and Design section is looking for a talented team-oriented Engineering Project Manager to lead and be involved in managing the planning and design of diverse transportation infrastructure projects. In this challenging position, day-to-day work includes leading transportation projects through the development of concept and/or preliminary designs including Streetscapes, Bridges, Roads, Interchanges and Active Transportation projects. Responsibility will also extend to providing support during the detailed design and delivery stages of the project.

You will be working closely with other project management and engineering professionals in day-to-day activities, leading and supporting the management of the planning and design of transportation infrastructure projects assigned to you.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Manage the planning and design of transportation facilities, ranging from bridges to roads to active modes to transit infrastructure
  • Collaborate with other City departments in the development and execution of Public Engagement and Communication Plans
  • Participate in public engagement activities including: public events, presentations and one-on-one meetings to provide information, build awareness, and gather feedback on projects
  • Liaise with technical professionals to develop concept and preliminary engineering drawings based on City design and construction standards, guidelines and policies
  • Manage multiple internal and external Consultant projects in accordance to the City procedures with emphasis on budget, schedule, scope, and quality
  • Coordinate with Corporate Procurement and Supply Services for the procurement of engineering consultants and the administration of Professional Service Agreements
  • Prepare, update, and maintain project management documentation as per the City’s project management procedures
  • Coordinate the contributions and feedback from project stakeholders to ensure collaborative, effective, and efficient project delivery
  • Coordinate and conduct meetings, workshops and liaise with other business units at the City of Edmonton
  • Respond to inquiries received from the public and other City groups and Council
Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of Engineering such as Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering
  • Minimum 4 years progressively responsible experience in municipal or related project engineering
  • Registered as a P.Eng in good standing with APEGA or with the Professional Engineering Association of another province/territory of Canada is a requirement
  • Ability to interact with the public and other stakeholders, possessing excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Understanding of planning and design processes related to transportation infrastructure projects would be considered an asset
  • Strong program/project management skills including an understanding of project management methods and techniques (PMBOK best practices)
  • Proven planning, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience in solving complex and sensitive issues
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to listen actively and to prepare reports and presentations
  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to develop strong, strategic, relationships and deliver work in a collaborative, integrated manner
  • Experience managing and working with external consultants
  • Capacity to develop and lead teams to obtain results
  • Familiar with relevant codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures (APEGA, OH&S, Environmental, Complete Streets Design and Construction Standards, TAC Design Guide, etc.)
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position

Up to 1 permanent full-time position

Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite.
