CLASS SUMMARY:

Responsible for skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of airfield lighting, signs and regulators. Maintains and repairs street lighting, entrance and exit gate electrical systems, and other electrical problems on the airport grounds as needed. Other duties include snow and ice removal and operating heavy equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.

  • Maintains runway, taxiway, and other special airport lighting and signage systems in accordance with codes, standards and other requirements.
  • Maintains and repairs airfield regulators, runway guard lights and runway ground weather sensors.
  • Maintains and repairs street lighting.
  • Maintains and installs electric equipment in buildings if needed
  • Maintains and repairs security gate operators and emergency generators.
  • Maintains airfield computer systems.
  • Performs snow and ice removal.
  • Assists in emergencies on CVG Airport property 24/7.
  • Safety Trainer position responsibilities: provide training for airfield maintenance personnel regarding CDL, safety and snow removal; writes training programs and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED and five years journeyman electrician experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of major electrical distribution systems, facilites and equipment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Kentucky Journeyman Electrician license
  • Incumbent must be eligible to obtain and maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (or ability to acquire Class A CDL within 6 months of hire date)
  • FLIR Training
  • Confined Space Training
  • AAAE Airfield Lighting Certificate / ADB Airfield Lighting Certificate

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Electrical theory and calculations;
  • Mechanical concepts, i.e. structures, physics, engine operation;
  • Generators and Automatic Transfer Switches;
  • Equipment and associate conduit/wiring installation;
  • High voltage, motor and lighting controls;
  • OSHA Standards, National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E, and Airfield and FAA Regulations.

SKILL IN:

  • Use of a variety of computer-based technologies including word processing, and spreadsheets;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective, fair, cooperative, collaborative and respectful relationships with internal and external colleagues, peers, work teams and workgroups.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
