- Performs, plans, and schedules design for new machines, options and configurations. Applies standard conceptual and detailed design practices and techniques.
- Performs all duties of an Engineer II in a professional and competent manner.
- Develops machine functional specifications in conjunction with Product Management and Marketing.
- Develops conceptual designs and recurring cost estimates.
- Prepares machine development/project plan, work breakdown structure, and schedule/update. Communicates project status to supervisor/management.
- Designs, performs and leads proof-of-technology tests; analyzes and correlates data; prepares reports and makes recommendations.
- Performs and documents risk assessments.
- Leads/performs detailed design engineering, including DFMA, FMEA, stress analysis, electromechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic circuit analysis, testing, etc.
- Interfaces with Manufacturing to develop fabrication/assembly cost estimates on machines.
- Develops Engineering models and/or drawings (using company standards and tools) including Bills of Materials (BOMs). Ensures that documentation is clear, complete, accurate and compliant with appropriate company standards.
- Develops written test plans to validate prototype equipment and/or component design. Performs tests, analyzes results, prepares written test reports and makes engineering recommendations, as appropriate.
- Prepares and updates machine manuals, as required.
- Generates and maintains project/task schedules and status reports, as required.
- Provides production shop support as required on R&D equipment. Tasks may include fit-up of components to verify/resolve interference issues or other engineering-related tasks.
- Performs machine quality inspections prior to machine shipments. Generates documentation to support quality compliance programs.
- Trains Production Engineers and Field Service Engineers in all aspects of the machine; transfers knowledge/release process to Production Engineering.
- Assists with machine installation, commissioning, field troubleshooting, and customer training, as required.
- Becomes familiar with all company safety standards.
- Performs all commitments/tasks in a timely and professional manner.
- Performs other duties/responsibilities as required.
- BSME degree (or equivalent) and appropriate job-related continuing education.
- PE preferred, however is not required and will not disqualify
- Ten or more years of experience in machine design within an OEM manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering and a broad working knowledge of control systems.
- Experience in the following software packages is required
- 3-D CAD (SolidWorks/ProE) (Mechanical Engineers)
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Computer Based Mathematical Analysis Software (MathCAD or equivalent and finite element analysis software)
- Possesses creative thinking skills and latitude in the application of standard and advanced engineering activities; exercises sound judgment in selecting and adapting engineering alternatives.
- Possesses a positive “get-it-done” attitude and the ability to work as part of a team in a demanding production environment.
- Travel as needed.
- Sit at a desk or computer for extended periods of time.
- Move about the office and factory with occasional lifting, bending and reaching.
- Dial, hear and respond to telephone calls and inquiries.
- Communicate effectively (visually and verbally) with internal and external contacts.
- Meet requirements of daily attendance on job for a full, continuous work schedule.
