Job Title: Senior Software Developer

Department: Technology

Location: The National Safety & Security Academy (NSSA), Doncaster

Line Manager: Head of Software

Contract Type: Full Time, Permenant

Role Purpose

· Your primary function will require you to be actively involved in all stages of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). You will utilise full stack, cloud based, Web and Mobile development skills to build high performing, scalable applications for a global user base

· You will work closely with key stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle to ensure online products and services meet and exceed expectations

· You will be expected to ensure that the online services that you have helped develop are deployed and supported in a manner that ensures our end users receive the highest level of service

· Your expertise will see you build and maintain solutions for the Aviation sector with an emphasis on Safety and Security but also helping us diversify and expand into more markets

· This is a senior role and you will be expected to provide technical leadership and provide support and guidance for more junior staff members. You will make sure appropriate technology is used and in accordance with best practice

· You will work closely with the Head of Software Development and the broader Software Team to ensure the continuous improvement of development practices

· This role involves being an integral member of the Software development team. We will support personal development to grow within the team, both in terms of increased responsibility and in the acquisition of new skills

Accountabilities

Software Team

· Work with technical colleagues to help determine appropriate Solution Designs

· You will be involved in the planning of technical projects by providing realistic estimates for components and features that require development

· You will provide timely updates and be expected to work within an Agile team

· You will write high quality efficient code, and have good awareness of standards and best practices

· You will be security conscious and ensure solutions are secured by design

· You will ensure that the code you produce has been adequately tested, from local unit tests through to user acceptance

· You will assist in any operational issues by providing timely remediation through troubleshooting and applying appropriate updates

· You will be responsible for reviewing the code of other developers and applying timely and constructive feedback and ensure coding standards are being met

People

· You will work with Junior members of the team to help them with their personal development and meet the standards required to produce high quality code

· From time to time you may be responsible for the day to day supervision of developers to ensure agreed deliverables are met

· You will work closely with key stakeholders both internal and external

This list is not exhaustive and is a guideline of those typical tasks that you will be expected to undertake as a valued member of Redline staff. However, you will be expected to undertake any additional tasks which are deemed to be fair and reasonable and fall within the remit of the Software Team. You are to work with complete diligence and utmost attention to detail to ensure that all tasks that you undertake are delivered to the highest possible standard.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

· 5 Years’ or more experience within a commercial setting in a relevant role

· Strong .Net development experience: C#, ASP.net MVC, Entity Framework etc

· Strong development experience with Java Script, ideally React.js and React Native

· Web front end development using HTML CSS

· Experience of cloud-based applications, in particular Microsoft Azure

· Knowledge of Web API Development and RESTful patterns

· Knowledge of RDMS Systems; particularly SQL Server and T-SQL

Desirable:

· Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), ideally Azure DevOps

· Knowledge of modern Mobile Web Applications (PWA/Hybrid) and/or Native Mobile development

· Understanding of modern architectures, patterns and practices
